From Showroom to Shop Floor: One Woman's Journey in the RV Industry

“I thrive on solving problems and bringing joy to others, whether it's celebrating successes or overcoming challenges together.”

"I've had countless opportunities to grow and excel within the company," Barr shares proudly. "In fact, I'm the only person who can handle every aspect of our business, except for hands-on RV repairs."

Despite challenges like underrepresentation of women in technical roles, the RV industry offers promising opportunities. "We have a strong female presence in many areas of our dealerships," Barr notes. "However, we've yet to see female applicants for technician positions."

"I've always been a curious soul," Jamie Barr reflects. "Even as a child, I was always eager to explore and learn." This innate curiosity has been the driving force behind her 19-year career at Leisure Time Sales, a leading Canadian RV dealership.

From uncertain career beginnings fresh out of high school, Barr's journey is a testament to the opportunities available within the RV industry for those with a thirst for knowledge and growth. She climbed the corporate ladder, transitioning from receptionist and warranty assistant to leadership positions in parts, service, and finance. Her dedication to understanding the RV industry, from its technical intricacies to its business operations, propelled her forward. Relocations to Moncton and St. John's broadened her experience in leadership roles, culminating in her current role as Training and Development Coordinator in Fredericton.

Barr's passion for people and problem-solving is evident. "I love being around people, training individuals, and witnessing their growth," she explains. As Training and Development Coordinator, she's committed to creating a supportive environment where employees can thrive. "I thrive on solving problems and bringing joy to others, whether it's celebrating successes or overcoming challenges together," she adds.

The Dobson Group fosters a strong company culture centered around employee well-being and loyalty. "We have employees who've been with us for over two decades," Barr says. "We prioritize caring for our staff just as much as our customers." While the RV industry's seasonal nature presents challenges, the company is dedicated to employee satisfaction and work-life balance.

Barr remains optimistic about the industry's future, citing technological advancements and growing consumer interest in outdoor recreation. "There's always something new to learn," she emphasizes. "I'm always up for a challenge." Her career journey exemplifies the rewards of dedication, curiosity, and a passion for personal and professional growth within the RV industry.
