The Blue seal program

Expanding Horizons with the Blue Seal Program

The Blue Seal Program is more than just a certification; it's a gateway to leadership and business success in the trades. In today's dynamic workforce, technical expertise alone isn't enough. Tradespeople equipped with strong management, communication, and entrepreneurial skills are in high demand. The Blue Seal program provides the tools and knowledge to help individuals thrive in these areas.

This program, designed by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT), opens doors to enhanced career growth for trades professionals in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories.

Why Pursue the Blue Seal?

Achieving a Blue Seal Certificate signifies a commitment to professional development and broadens career possibilities. It equips tradespeople with critical skills in areas such as Accounting, Marketing, Project Management, and Communications. These competencies empower individuals to manage teams, oversee financial operations, or launch their own ventures, aligning their business knowledge with trade expertise.

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility for the Blue Seal Program requires:

  • Completion of 150 credit hours in an approved area of study through courses or programs.

  • A valid journeyperson certificate, Occupational Certificate, or recognized trade certification from Alberta, Saskatchewan, or the Northwest Territories.

Meeting these requirements enables applicants to submit their documentation and transcripts via an online application portal, along with a non-refundable application fee.

Learning Opportunities Across Canada

Although the Blue Seal Program is specific to three provinces, its courses can be completed nationwide at institutions such as:

  • Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT)

  • University of Saskatchewan

  • Aurora College

  • McMaster University

  • Acadia University

  • Laval University

and many others. This flexibility ensures tradespeople across Canada can participate in this enriching program.

The Power of Dual Certification

The Blue Seal complements the nationally recognized Red Seal Program, showcasing both technical and managerial prowess. Holding both designations reflects a commitment to excellence, enhancing a tradesperson’s reputation with employers and customers alike while building confidence.

For trades professionals seeking to lead, innovate, and grow, the Blue Seal Program offers a path to success.
